Since 2025, Hotel Gilbert has been certified with the Austrian Ecolabel. We are proud to be among the more than 800 tourism businesses in Austria that have been awarded this seal following a comprehensive assessment. It stands for high environmental standards throughout the entire value chain\u2014from energy and water consumption to waste reduction and the use of regional products\u2014as well as for quality, transparency, and trust. It\u2019s not just a fa\u00e7ade.<\/h2>\n

Gilbert likes to wear green because it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. As one of the few buildings in Vienna, the outer fa\u00e7ade has been greened to improve the surrounding microclimate. This way, the fa\u00e7ade barley stores any heat \u2013 on the contrary, it even has a cooling effect. This is why we don\u2019t have tropical nights at the Gilbert. In winter, the evergreen plants have a heat-insulating effect. Just perfect.<\/p><\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Gilbert\u2019s laundry day.<\/h2>\n

Instead of handing out a plethora of tiny shampoo bottles, we use normal-sized dispensers that are refilled daily by housekeeping. We buy our cosmetics from the Austrian company Lederhaas, which is 100% free of animal testing. In addition, the ingredients used are purely organic. And they smell wonderful!<\/p>\r\n\r\n

We use detergents sparingly, without compromising on hygiene. In the future, our goal is to use only steam for cleaning, therefore forgoing the use of chemical cleaning agents all together. Our laundry is also environmentally conscious \u2013\u00a0the fact that we are certified with the Austrian eco-label makes us very proud.<\/p><\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

BEE2B \u2013 Peter Brandl from Salzburg is a passionate beekeeper alongside his day job. When his daughter found out during her student job with us that we were looking for a \u201choney project\u201d what was actually intended as an experiment finally turned out to be a stroke of luck for both sides . Our bee sponsorship has enabled them to purchase additional bee colonies, and we are also the exclusive buyer of the wonderful \u201eHeuberg\u201c honey from gardens and flower meadows, which we serve to our guests for breakfast, sometimes as delicate blossom honey, sometimes as delicious cream honey.<\/p><\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In our restaurant &flora we try to process every part of the fruit and vegetables used. That way, we provide more taste and prevent waste at the same time. In general, we try to waste as little food as possible. That\u2019s why we are also partners of \u201cto good to go\u201d. The food that is left over at the end of the day is loaded into the \u201cToo good to go\u201d app and you can take it home with you for a low price. You get a surprise bag in the usual Gilbert &flora quality, nothing is wasted and that makes our planet happy. Each of our apprentices participates in a fixed programme consisting of four two-day modules. During their three- or four-year apprenticeship, we aim to provide each apprentice with the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme within Austria or a four-week stay abroad.<\/p>\n

In 2025, we supported the St. P\u00f6lten Day Centre, a facility for people with disabilities, at the 'Culinary Delights and Wine' charity event. In 2026, we will be supporting the Red Cross's 'Heart at the Stove' initiative, which is under the patronage of Clemens Strobl. During May and June of that year, some of the country's top chefs will be dedicating their time to this cause by cooking at Red Cross Team Austria food banks to generate donations and raise awareness. The chefs' unique potato goulash creations will be placed in disposable jars and given to clients to enjoy at home.\r\n<\/div>\n\n
